Two Heart Attacks at 28: Let's Help Michael and His Family

On march 30th, Michael Taylor was playing outside with his boys. At first he thought he had pulled something in his left shoulder but then he also broke out in a bad sweat. This prompted his dad to call 911. On the way to the hospital, they proceeded to tell Michael that he was having a Major Heart Attack. Turns out that his right coronary artery was 100% blocked & as a result, they put a stint in. He spent 5 days in CCU before being released to go home.

A short 2 weeks later, his chest started bothering him once again. After driving himself to the hospital, he was told that he was having yet another heart attack. He was sent in to have another cardiac catheterization done to his arm in order to see what was going on. Since having this done, his cardiologist has places him into cardiac rehab at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The program they have him on will last him 12 weeks. In the beginning, they were trying to push him so that he would be able to return to work after 2 weeks. However, it appears that he is carrying fluid on his legs due to poor circulation & he was placed back in the hospital.

At the young age of 28, he is in the beginning stages of congestive heart failure. Only half of his heart is working & a great deal of damage was done as a result of the heart attack(s). This leaves the doctors unsure of when he will be able to return to work. In the mean time, his wife (my best friend) is working 6 and 7 day weeks to support them & their two kids.

In response to everything that has been going on, the family of Michael & Casey are asking that anyone who wishes to donate, do so via Paypal using the below button.

Also, there will be a raffle on May 31st, 2013 at 7:00pm for a photo session with Heather Adams Photography. Tickets are $5 or you can get 5 tickets for $20. You can find additional information by checking out the event page via Facebook.

Thank you for your time & just remember, every little bit helps..

Armed Forces Day 2013

Everyone is probably aware that the 27th of this month is Memorial Day.
However, did you know that today is Armed Forces Day in the US?

SOURCE
What exactly is Armed Forces Day?

Armed Forces Day was created August 31, 1949 in order to roll Army, Navy, & Air Force Days all into one. This also came to be due to the fact of all of the armed services joining together under a single department- the Department of Defense.

The first official Armed Forces Day was celebrated May 20th 1950. John F. Kennedy declared Armed Forces Day a national holiday in 1962 & ever since, it has been celebrated as a day set aside to show appreciation for those serving in the 5 branches of our armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, & Coast Guard). The holiday falls on the third Saturday of May each year.

Themes

The very first theme assigned to Armed Forces Day was 'Teamed for Defense'. Each year there after, there has been a different theme to go with the holiday. For this year, the theme is...

STRONG AND RESILIENT
Prepared To Meet Any Challenge

 Ways we celebrate?

  • Parades
  • Local celebrations
  • Various motorcycle rides to support our troops
  • Demonstrations or military events open to the public
  • Memorials and/or celebrations
  • Concerts
  • Air Shows
You can check your local listings to see if there are any special events going on in your area.

Even if there is nothing special going on in your area, just remember to take a moment out to think of those who serve our country in the Armed Forces. Maybe take the time to thank a Veteran or send a care package. Really- The smallest gestures make the biggest difference.

Fridays for Fido 3rd Edition: Meet Rita & Juno

I thought that this Friday, I would introduce y'all to two of the leading ladies on my Facebook feed. How does this fit into Fridays for Fido?? Well, they're both Pit Bulls- that's how. Each has their own unique story to tell & through them you are sure to meet many other adorable pooches!

Add Rita on Facebook

Everyone meet Rita, the Naked Pit Bull.

Rita was picked up as a stray who had sarcoptic mange & a skin infection. & believe it or now, there was no hair on her body anywhere. Nise was working at Odessa Rescue and Rehabilitation in Richmond, Virginia when they rescued Rita. After her mange and skin infection was cleared up- Rita was placed in a foster home until the rescue decided to bring her closer so that she could attend various adoption events, etc. Nise gave her the ride from her foster home & well, the rest is history.

To learn more about Rita, her nakedness, & her forever home- be sure to check out her FACEBOOK page.

Add Juno on Facebook

Everyone meet Juno, the Pit Bull Goddess.

After being rescued at the young age of 7 weeks old, Juno has grown to be such a beautiful 'goddess'. Winner of multiply awards & an American Dog Magazine celebrity (winter Issue 2010), she has also become a well known face via her Facebook page. I guess you could say: a positive example of the Pitbull breed. She is also making me smile with her lovely photos where she is appearing in her various tutus.

To follow Juno, & all her latest endeavors- be sure to check her out via her FACEBOOK page.

Through out the weeks, I will be sharing more adorable pooches with you. Not all will be Pitbulls (though they are my fav). I believe that each pet is special in their own way & if they have their own Facebook page... well then- they're just cooler than cool. hehe.
