Shine Through Sundays 1.30.11

Hello!!

I would like to Welcome everyone to my Wonderful weekly series,
"Shine Through Sundays." New & old friends, just the same!

For those who are new; Each week I feature a blog & an Etsy shop that I believe everyone should at least check out. When a new week comes around, the featured 'sites' are then be added to the "STS" Archive, where you can find then at any later date.

This week's featured sites are:

Featured Blog:
{Mis}Adventures of an Army Wife
{mis}Adventures of an Army Wife

Not only do I love her for her name, Jessica is a wonderful name to have after all, but her blog is pretty awesome as well. Being a fellow military spouse there are things that she touches on that only a 'milspouse' would understand. However, she also posts things that anyone can relate to. Her ability to be on both sides of that fence is only one reason why you should stop by & give {Mis}Adventures of an Army Wife a follow.

Featured Etsy Shop:
The Copper Poppy
[SHOP HERE]

I must say that I am a sucker for some hand punched jewelry. Everywhere I turn there is always something that I want. Stamped with my Bubbie's name, placed on a lovely chain, with a colorful little jewel added. However, when I came across Alyssa's shop... I was mesmerized! Everything is so unique and beautiful. Necklaces, keychains, pet ids, wine charms, & more. With over 2000 sales, there's no question that you'll find something, also, that you just simply have to order.

The picture above is just one of the many different style items that she offers. It is a Mixed Metal ID Tag for your pet. Reasonably priced & sure to be one of a kind when your puppy or kitty gets together with their fluffy pals.

Thank you everyone for stopping by for yet another week of the "Shine Through Sundays" series & I hope that I was able to introduce you to some really great sites again this week... Hope to see you all back next week!
Enjoy you're week!

5 Things Friday: I Can Not Live Without

I've decided that since I follow a few Blog Hops on Fridays, I'd post a series that let's my readers (new & old) know more about myself. With this thought "Five Things Friday" was born.

This weeks 5 things are:
Those 5 Things I Can Not Live Without

1. My Kids- This may be a given to most but I have to say that this is the only thing that I truly wouldn't be able to survive without. "Bubbie" has been my saving grace & I can no imagine loving the soon-to-be new addition any differently or any less.

2. Friends- Other than my kids, my friends rank highest on my list. They may be few in numbers but they are simply the best. What is one without friends? Not much of anything if you ask me.

3. Books- I'm sure this one makes me sound like a total geek but it's true. E-books or the good old fashion binded books... they are wonderful. When the world gets crazy, time willing with my busy mommy/wife life, I love diving into a book to escape. They allow for such relaxation & change when you just want to be someone else.

4. Photography- Even before I received my Awesome Nikon D3000 camera, I was snapping photos. I have no less than 10 photo albums just from pre birth until age 1 for my son. I'm sure it'll be just as "bad" for the one on the way. I'm not as skilled at editing as I hope to one day be but none the less, I'd be lost without a camera

5. Cake & Ice Cream- Yes folks, you read that right. Truth be known, I may not die without it, & I'd probably be a crap load thinner, but still... A life with out cake & ice cream would be a miserable life. Even if it was just those birthday cake ice cream sandwiches, that still counts. So Yummy!

♥,
Jessica

MilSpouse Friday Fill-in

I just took on a new blog hop to start my fridays out with. MilSpouse Friday Fill-in is hosted by A Sailor's Wife. I have been reading other's entries for this blog hop for a couple weeks but this is my first week linking up. It excites me! hehe...

This week’s questions are:

1. If you were a famous movie star, what types of movies would you star in?
I'd have to say that I am a 50's era girl at heart. Starring beside actors like Frank Sinatra & Gene Kelly; actresses such as Marilyn Monroe & Elizabeth Taylor. Those are the films you'd find me in.

2. What is a vacation you would like to take if money were no object?
If money were no issue I'd have to make it a long vacation. The family & I would start in Canada. The list there after is as follows: Iceland, Sweden, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Australia, & New Zealand.

3. Did you have pets growing up?
The pets I have had are pretty generic. I've had everything from puppies, to kittens, to gerbils, fish, & a bunny rabbit at one point in time.

4. What do you do for exercise?
Being the lazy preggo chick that I am housework & chasing my 17 month old is the extent of my exercise. However, after my first son was born I was in the gym 2 hours a day for at least 4/5 days a week. As long as child care works out in my favor, the same will be done after this baby is done. I'd even considering walking before this one is born; if only the weather would get warmer.

5. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as a MilSpouse?
Pretty much to choose your friends & groups carefully. Mind your own P's & Q's and gossip is a deep, dark black hole.

Thanks for reading!
♥,
Jessica

Oh Bananas

**Please take it easy on me. It has been years since I wrote a poem** lol. TY!

2.) Write a love poem to a favorite food.

Banana & Mayo
all over my bread,
Banana & Mayo
what a wonderful spread

Others think you're icky
Some may think you're sick
But to me you're simply heaven
To me you're my #1 pick

I've known you all of my life
though a few years we were apart
But some way some how
You found your way back to my little heart

Most will never understand
I'm sure they wont even try
That's alright with me however
I'd be jealous, I wont lie

So bananas on the Walmart stand
Mayo from the store
Come together with some bread
& please my appetite some more.

Meal Time Planning = Overwhelmed

Hello everyone!

After being M.I.A. for a few days I am back. Well, kinda. There really hasn't been much going on around me that has put me in a blogging mood. Sad, I know. The weather is cold & rainy. The 'Bubbie' is teething hardcore. I've just been feeling a tad bit off center lately. But anywho~

While trying to remain productive today I decided to create a meal plan for the month of February. Yeah, me sitting here typing to you must say a great deal on how that's going. ha. I sat down, started thinking, & then bam! I was trying to make it more complicated than it should be. Or at least more complicated then I thought it was supposed to be. My main issue is that I want to start couponing as well. One seems to go 'hand in hand' with the other. What is the big problem with this, you may be asking?! Well, there are two major problems I am having:

1. Where to start?!? I must admit- I am feeling a teeny tiny bit OVERWHELMED with the task ahead of me.

2. I wasn't able to get a sunday paper this week & for some reason, this is rendering me 'helpless'. Or so that's the excuse myself is making. For some reason, justified or now, I feel as if that is a major point where I need to start. Like without those coupons, I am not prepared for class. I know, I know... probably a highly irrational conclusion.

But as long as it may take, I will get this done. Baby steps, right?! We are not shopping until the 1st anyways. I'll work on it a little here and there until then. Yeah, that'll work. lol

Well, Hope everyone is having a happy Wednesday!!

Are you a couponing momma? Do you sometimes lay in bed at night, dreaming of saving tons of money for your family? Any handy dandy tips to share?

I would like to Welcome everyone to my Wonderful weekly series,
"Shine Through Sundays"

Each week I feature a blog & an Etsy shop that I believe everyone should at least check out. When a new week comes around, the featured 'sites' is then be added to an archive where you can always find them.

This week's featured 'sites' for the Sugar in My Grits "Shine Through Sundays" series are:

Featured Blog:
31 DIY

I have been following Lauren's blog for a little while now, I have to say, there are SO many things on there that I have seen and plan on trying. She has created a "To-Do" list and as she goes through the projects, she shares the tutorials on how she went upon carrying them out, & then marks it off of her list. Everything she does is with a cheapest cost in mind. But do not be fooled by this fact- every project turns out fabulous. So be sure to swing by 31 DIY, follow, and leave some comment love.

Featured Etsy Shop:
Just Dandy Creations
[SHOP HERE]

Here lately I have been seeing some super cute knitted items that I wish I had the time to learn how to make. However, it'd probably take till I was 35 to get to where I successfully made anything actually wearable. (lol) With this thought in mind I took to Etsy.com to browse around. Low and be hold I came across "Just Dandy Creations" and Karlyn's adorably need to have knitted stocking caps for newborns. Seeming as I have a little bun baking in the oven... I WANT ONE!! hehe... This is the one I plan on getting. Just not sure of the colors yet:

& that is only one of MANY knitted caps/hats to pick from. So definitely rush over and find the one that catches your eye & possibly your heart.

Thank you everyone for stopping by for another week of the "Shine Through Sundays" series & I look forward to seeing everyone back again soon.
Enjoy you're week!

A friday funny

ALL husbands should keep this in their mental files. They would get so much further. Not just for preggo wives either. In my opinion.

I'm losing myself... or am I already lost?!

Photobucket
(image found on Photobucket)

Not that I am a recluse or anything but today I will be leaving the house alone (well, with the Bubbie) for only the 3rd time since we moved here. And get this- we moved here December 5th. So yeah... this fact has me wondering if I'll ever put myself out there enough to make any friends. Deep down I don't think that I do all of this intentionally. Most days the time just runs away from me. It seems like after dishes, feeding times, baths & showers, laundry, and picking up after Husband,Kid, & Dogs; there just isn't any time or energy to get dressed, get Bubbie packed up in the truck, & actually make it to the truck.

However, with how I've been feeling lately I need to get out more. I need friends because I am beyond stressed & only 17 wks pregnant. What is it doing to be like when I'm 30 weeks & quite huge?! So this is my declaration to get out more. Try to find more friends somehow & declutterize my mind and rid myself of some of this stress that comes from not having a "me" life.

Wish me luck & hope everyone is having a Happy Friday!!!
Bath time for the Bubbie now~ Chow!

Weird Me Wednesday 1.19.10

Photobucket
**Come join us for this fun, weekly Blog Hop**

Weird Me Fact:

I will only use metal eating utensils without the plastic handle unless there just is no other option. I'm paranoid that there are germs lurking in the handles.

Yummy Goodness!

Strawberries, Sour Cream, & Brown Sugar

I know, I know. You're probably thinking "YUCK" & don't feel bad because I get that reaction all of the time. However, this weird sounding concoction truly is yummy. Do me a favor, at least give it a try before you put it down. The flavors all work together in a way that will leave you wanting to run out & buy more strawberries.

Enjoy!
-Jessica

Heck Yeah!

Whew! It is finally naptime!! Some may think that this sounds bad but come on, if you have a child; then you understand. My Bubbie is completely awesome, don't get me wrong. However, he is driving me BONKERS. Absolutely nuts.

I guess it all lies within the fact that we are at that stage where he's old enough to "help" mommy with chores & such but not quite to the age where he can understand that he can't help. Old enough to let me know what he's wanting/needing but not quite to a place where he understand the passage of time.

For instance:

Mommy's Little Dishwasher- Every morning I follow the same routine pretty much. I unload the clean dishes from the dishwasher & reload it with the dirty ones. Every morning Bubbie wants to help. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the help. It's a great deal more than I get from anyone else. But yes- pb&j hands on a clean plate... kinda has to be rewashed. lol

Help With the Laundry- Folding clothes has got to be one of my least liked chores. It's not as bad since I've started hanging mostly everything up but still. I list this household chore under the "hassle" category. Despite the fact that it needs to be done. Anywho- Bubbie thinks that laundry is awesome. Mommy folds something and then lays it on the table for him to unfold. After unfolding the item he gets to either put it on and wear it around the house or simply toss it on the floor.

Lunch/Dinner- I wish that I could always just slap a sandwich together for my child. I really do. Reason being, it's quick & simple. Throw some cheese puffs on the highchair with it & poof! Lunch/Dinner. Unfortunately, it isn't always that easy. Yet, Bubbie is always just as impatient as the time before. Nothing gets made fast enough & I swear- I'm moving in Super Mommy Mode.

These are only 3 of the many things that I could list as to why I really should be bald by now. However, when the Husband doesn't understand why I'm so tired & emotional I am still not allowed to hit him. He doesn't understand that I do not like having to fuss at my kid over & over & over. And let's not forget the fact that I am 17 weeks pregnant. Humm... maybe sometime I should let him be in my place for a day. If only that were possible... The video tape would SO be rolling!

♥,
Jessica

As I Lay Me Down to Sleep

I am left wondering... all of those days when I lay in bed thanking God for 'helping' me stand & tolerate my kid; you know, the days where Bubbie is constantly pitching a fit and/or banging his head into things simply because things just aren't going his way. On those days, when I thank God for helping me to NOT duct tape his little butt to the ceiling fan. For helping me survive another day of teething or just another "Unhappy Toddler Day".. does my little man lay in bed at night thanking God for helping him tolerate me?!

Just kind of makes me wonder if he honestly has it as hard as I think I do. but- Thank goodness he's too young yet to let me know the answer to this pondering of mine... lol.

Finally...

In about an hour I will officially be out of the house without my Bubbie. It's something that doesn't happen often & quite honestly, I'm only leaving him home because it's a Women's Convention thingy that I am going to. Walking around, getting samples, & talking to people just isn't as easy pushing around a stroller. Especially when the kid wants to get involved in everything & "talk" to just about everyone there. lol. Sure, I love my socially excited child but yeah-- Much needed Mommy Time!!

You can be sure I'll be filling you all in about it once I'm home & done getting the house chores done this evening.

Check this out!

I am kind of excited! I just signed up for Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop. Eek!! I'm sure this makes me come across as such a nerd but yeah- I can not wait to get my first writing prompts!!

These Nightmares

For some reason posting this has been weighing on my mind. It's more of a need to get it in writing & out of my head (per say). My dreams at night are starting to effect my days. Not wanting to get up because the night befores rest was crap. Maybe it's the pregnancy but for some reason I am having these horrible dreams every night.

Some nights someone is trying to kill me. I have even dreamed that my husband had killed someone and was after me next. Other nights it's just a random person who is out to get me. These dreams are terrible, don't get me wrong, but they are by far not the worst ones.

The dreams that can be categorized as nothing short of a nightmare are the ones where something happens to my son. I have had dreams where he is missing. I have even had dreams where he has died. These are the nightmares that stay with me throughout the entire day. They make me want to cry hours after I have been awake for a while; Ball my eyes out even though I am fully away that my Bubbie is with me, alive, & well.

As I said, maybe these are just the side effects of being pregnant. Maybe I REALLY need to leave the Investigative Discovery (ID) Channel off the screen for a few days. I'm not really sure what the deal is. All I know is that it's been a week & last night was the only night where nothing terrible happened. Hopefully the cycle is broken but we'll have to wait and see...

Photobucket
Maybe I need to borrow Bubbie's old Sleep Sheep...lol

Have you ever experienced anything like this? Do your dreams effect the way you feel and act throughout your day? Share with me :)

He Saves Me

Peeve #1 out of 9,609,345

I am sitting here writing as Bubbie is splish-splashing & the Hubby is being obnoxiously loud as he yells at his stupid video games. Yes, I just said that out loud. It is my constant peeve and an ongoing problem between the Hubster & I. Of course it's not just him doing it; Most of the male species partakes in this ritual. You know which one I'm speaking of: putting in a game that they know will anger then, yet continuing to yell (full force) at the television. Weather they are using a mic or not they still continue to yell. I just do not understand it. However, I knew what I was signing up for when I married him (as he reminds me numerous times) & he's not willing to budge on the matter.

So this leads me to the fact that, yes- I did know what I was getting into when I married him. I loved him & wanted to start a family with him. I just didn't know how much something as "small" as him yelling at the video games would effect me. Once in my life I was a quiet person. Now- it seems like I have changed to mimic him. Not as happy as I once was, easily angered, quick to yell. It's not his fault. I blame genetics & such for the way the video games get him going & well, the video game creators for putting us women through this. Sure, I signed up for this but my one true worry is... how will it effect Bubbie & his future sibling?

My children will never become addicted to games (as long as I have anything to do with it). If it is sunny, they will play outside. If they decide to get into video games it will be on a VERY limited basis. Same goes for television & things that do not involve getting up and moving or using their little brains. I did just fine without video games. I will try my hardest to make sure my children find other interests as well. It may not be my place or in my power to change the way my husband is but it is my duty, as a mother, to see that history does not repeat itself.

Sorry for complaining so much but yeah- I'm just venting I guess. Thanks for reading!!

Jessica

I have a confession

Yes, it is time that I step into the blog confessional & fess up....

This is something that has been weighing on me for a while now....

However, I believe I am so addicted that it really doesn't bother me as much as it should....

Yes. There, I said it....

I am an ADDICT....

A full fledged FRONTIERVILLE playing ADDICT.

Whew! I feel so much better now that I got that off my chest.

Now- anyone care to friend me & become neighbors?? hehe...
If so, come join in on the madness today.

A must watch video

I was watching television in the bedroom the other night while the Hubby played video games in the living room. This commercial came on & after laughing out loud I just had to show my husband. I went straight into the living room, found it on Youtube, and showed it to him. This is video is soooo him. (he even agreed) lol...

~Enjoy~

Diaper Poll

I am trying to decide what kind of diapers to use once the new baby comes along. Please take time to take my poll & let me know any additional feelings or opinions. If there are any other options out there that I have not listed, just add them under the other space.

January 3rd, 2011

I wasn't able to post yesterday because it was such a busy day. I had to wake up at 6:30am (which is extremely early for me). After waking the Hubby up, I got Bubbie up and we headed to my prenatal orientation at the hospital.

The orientation was only paper work and any questions we had about this or that dealing with our first trimester. It wasn't the most interesting class but there were FREEBIES! And come on, who doesn't love freebies?!

After the class we rode around passing time until my first prenatal appointment. Let me tell you, those were the longest hours that i have experienced in a while. Waiting, wondering, & anticipating. We had not heard the baby's heartbeat or anything and to be honest, I had grown quite attached in the last 15 weeks.

2:45pm finally rolled around and into the doctor's office I went. The Hubby was watching Bubbie while I had the appointment and so he wasn't with me. All by myself; sitting in the waiting room. Nervous is the only word that could properly sum up what I was feeling. Waiting is not one of my strong points any how but this was almost unbearable. What if something had gone wrong? What if I had gotten attached to someone that wasn't going to make it into this world? It was a possibility but hopefully one that would soon be erased from my mind.

Once in the exam room I met with the nurse first. While trying to hear the heart beat she was unable to find it. Thinking that we had heard it at one point for a split second but not being so sure she decided to just let the doctor check into it with the ultrasound machine. She left the room and I'm going to be honest, I'm not very religious but I prayed. In the beginning I wasn't sure I wanted to be pregnant (that's a post for another day) but after 15 weeks, how could I not be heartbroken if things went wrong?

When the doctor came in she gave me my pelvic exam and then it was finally time to do the ultrasound. It was an uncomfortable process since it was the one done with the wand inserted vaginally instead of just being one done through the belly. However, there it was. The wee one as she called it. Every time she tried to get the measurements she needed it would run from her. She laughed as the baby went crazy and told me that I definitely had a healthy one in there. The relief that washed over me was amazing.

So, without further ado I'd like everyone to meet the still-brewing "Baby B." This is his/her first public appearance but honestly- I think they're already practicing to be a star:

Photobucket
Everyone meet "Baby B."

With that I will let you guys go for now. More cleaning to do & of course- I'm hungry again....

Really? When did this happen?

Bubbie at 1 wk old

Ever since my dear little 'Bubbie' was born he has been pretty well to transition. I mean, being a military brat there really wasn't many other options for him.

3 days old- home from hospital
4 days old- back in the hospital for jaundice
5 days old- back home
10 days old- Daddy deploys & we head to my parent's for a while
2 months old- we take long trip from NC to Alabama for couple days & then head to Texas
3 months old- we move from living with Mimi & Pawpaw to living with Aunt Teppy, Uncle Jason, & Johnman
9 months old- Daddy is home for 15 days
10 months old- Daddy leaves again
11 months old- we head back to NC, this time only stopping in Alabama for a night
12 months old- we leave my parent's house to get ready for Daddy to come home
13 months old- Daddy comes home
16 months old- We move from NC to Virginia

Throughout most of moving & visiting my son held up really well. However, I guess that it's not always easy. Eventually there is a breaking point where things stop being all peachy keen. For Bubbie this would be when Daddy comes home when he was 13 months old.

It was from sleeping all night in his own bed to screaming when we laid him down to sleep. I'd never had so much trouble out of him & it tore me up inside and out. My baby has always been the happy baby. The easy to adapt baby. Not anymore. We figure it was maybe the fear of Daddy leaving again. Something inside him snapped & he was like, "nope, not going to allow it again". All of the moving finally set in. He was letting us know that since Daddy was finally home, it was enough. We really do not know the exact reasons but whatever they were, it's only gotten worse from there.

Bubbie has gone from sleeping in his own bed through out the night to sleeping with Mommie at bedtime. He plays until he randomly passes out at nap time. When I say he sleeps with Mommie at bedtime, I mean that he will not go to sleep unless I am in the bed with him. Sometimes I can be doing whatever I wish such as reading or playing online. Other times I have to turn the lights out and pretend to sleep with him. I could grasp this change a great deal easier if we had been co-sleepers since day one but no; we only did the co-sleeping for the first 3 months of his life. He then moved quiet easily from that to sleeping in his own bed in my room at first and then to sleeping in his own room after that. And even after refusing to sleep in his own room alone he moved to sleeping in a 'Pack n Play' in our room, not in our bed. But now it has to be Mommie's bed or nothing.

I know that the world is not going to end just because my son sleeps with me. It may form a problem once the new baby is here and such but still. Truth be known- I love waking up and seeing his sleeping self next to me. It gives me that sense of peace that I desperately need at the end of my day, most days. So with that stated I'm simply saying that I do not understand where this came from. But then again, I guess I do and I can not blame the poor child. I'm just glad that now we're settled and wont be moving for a very long time. That is, as long as the Army doesn't have other plans for us anytime soon.

So what are your thoughts on how to prepare him for his own room again? Has anyone else ever experienced this kind of thing before?

Welcome!!

Welcome to 2011 everyone & Welcome to my new blog!!

After having to leave my previous blog behind ("Life with Bubbie, etc") when I was just getting started, I decided to hold off for a couple months before starting all over. That time off gave me time to sit back (as much as one with a toddler can), take a good look at what it was I wanted out of my life over all, & plan how I could throw it all together to make it work in the new year. I mean, it's a new year; I might as well use it to my advantage & make it into a chance to get my new life plan started.

Blogging has become a passion of my heart just as much as everything else that I deeply yearn for, why not use it as a way to achieve it all? Why not use it as a way to relate, guide others, & show other women that it is possible to achieve anything the heart truly desires? Just remember: Life has a funny way of working out. Just because things do not work out exactly like you think they should, or the path isn't as smooth as you would like it to be; that doesn't mean that you aren't headed exactly where you are supposed to be.

I can not promise that everything that is to come in this year will be easy to swallow, understand, or be very helpful. However, it is my plan to do everything in my power to be real. It is not only a goal to write but to inform. If I can I want to make my readers laugh, or even cry would achieve a purpose. Raw emotion is always a good result but letting someone, even if only one person, know that they are not alone in this crazy world makes even the bad days worth wild.

So, please come back & join me in my journey to rediscovering who I am. Hop on board as I attempt to put my roles as military spouse, SAHM to a toddler, expecting mommie, growing blogger, & hopeful future entrepreneur all together to mold the person I wish to be. There will be projects posted that I have taken on and hopefully completed. You will come to know my family & the struggles that come with loving and caring for them. Every post may be completely different or I may get stuck on an issue for a few days. Whatever comes of this blog just know that I love comments & love meeting new bloggers to follow and relate to.

Happy New Year again everyone! I look forward to getting to know you all this year of 2011!!!

Jessica
